 Data Visualization

This lesson taught me how to convey data using visuals. Visuals help make data simple and understand. It also helps us think and communicate. An example of visual data is infographics which are created using imagery, charts and minimal text that give an overview of an easy-to-understand topic. For that, I also learnt how to make an infographic that is effective and minimalistic in conveying the required data. With this knowledge, I would be able to help others understand my data without having to explain to them verbally in detail, as majority of us are visual learners. I would be able to show the results of the surveys from my problem statement in a more effective and easier way.

 Effective Ideation

This phase was part of the 5 step mentioned in the previous entry. This lesson taught me to think out of the box when it comes to ideating a solution. There were 8 ground rules mention which when summarized basically meant ideation should mean no bounds,  and to prioritize quantity over quality. One method introduced were ideating equations which gave us opportunities to combine 2 completely different keywords, one relating to the problem statement and the other completely random. The results were astounding; good ideas surfaced that were not taught of before and gave us better ideas on how to tackle our problem statement. We used this method to come up with a solution in the ideation phase of our problem statement.

Sources of Data

This lesson taught me the types of sources of data which are Primary and Secondary. It also taught me the differences between the two and in what context both sources are relevant and effective in. I also learnt how these data could be arranged in terms of structured data and unstructured data. Structured data is placed in such a way where data is organized and hence easily readable by users, however may not be as detailed as unstructured data that includes images, word process documents, emails, audio recordings. Finally, I learnt of different types of data which are qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative data is the why of the data, where facts or opinions are the ones usually displayed. Quantitative data involve numbers, data that is numerical, as opposed to opinions and facts. With this knowledge, I would be able to collect and organize data effectively to suit the needs of my problem statement.

 Effective Definition

Through this lesson, I am able to state assumptions with reference to the observation on the user's experience. I am also able to identify issues by organizing assumptions of user experience into identifiable groups. Finally, I am also able to perform a crosscheck with the user. This lesson taught me the process of design thinking where there are 5 steps, each with their unique purposes. One of the steps is empathy where effective definition is achieved through interpreting observations. These interpretations are then used to create How Might We statements to guide ideation efforts. These interpretations come in the from of SAM and UNI, where we are able to create examples of people's experiences with reference to our problem statement. This method is extremely useful as it helps us come up with relevant solutions that tackle the specific problems from our data collection phase

Good data

Today I learnt what is good data and how data collected from sources such as surveys must be accurate, precise, relevant, complete, consistent and timely. This ensures the validity of the data collected such that it contributes to my research and does not mislead me or others. I also learnt how to make spider diagrams which were made to compare data between 2 or more different sources. Through the spider diagram, I learnt what questions to ask that is relevant and valid to the source. This helps me understand how to craft effective and valid questions in surveys or interviews for my problem statement later on.

Effective Empathy

Through this lesson, I learnt a new and efficient way to gather user data. This is the most useful lesson to me as it guides me through the identification process of a user's experience and journey in any situation that is applicable.

This guide or method is also very detailed in a sense that not only does it look out for the psychological and social factors of the user during the situation, but also the verbal factors and sight factors the user faces during the process. That is what the empathy map is for, to best resemble what it felt in the user's shoes through words

The user journey map was a recap of an older lesson but also improved my understanding of how user journey maps are made to follow
